Presentation at Sandwich High School
Jason Hyatt (WHFC), in cooperation with Pat Harcourt of the Waquoit Bay National Estuarine Research Reserve, recently gave a talk to students at Sandwich High School. Teacher Nichole Willey managed to get the students to remove their baseball caps and stop clicking their pens long enough for Jason to give the students a taste for life at sea. Students tried on Mustang Suits, passed around beefy shackles, and asked, "Do you get paid a lot?" Excellent questions from such a bright young group of would-be scientists! A subsequent presentation on the USGS efforts in studying effects of the Massachusetts Bay outfall pipe helped students understand that the plumbing contents leaving their homes does, in fact, go somewhere. "Will the outfall pipe affect red tides?" Another excellent question and one we hope to find a definitive answer to in the future.
